Carlos Venegas of Brewster was arrested after Pound Ridge Police received a report of a motor vehicle accident at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday on Autumn Ridge Road in Pound Ridge, said Chief David Ryan.
Upon arrival, police observed a vehicle about 70 feet down an embankment in the area of the Clarke Preserve.
Police found Venegas at the scene. An investigation revealed that Venegas drove off the roadway on the wrong side of the road, drove back on to the roadway and drove off the opposite side of the road then drove back across the roadway, driving down a steep embankment into the Clarke Preserve, Ryan said.
After issuing field sobriety tests, it was determined that Venegas was operating the vehicle while intoxicated and had previously been convicted of DWI in the prior 10 years. In addition, as a result of his prior conviction, Venegas was required to utilize an ignition interlock device on any vehicle he operated. The vehicle did not have an ignition interlock device, Ryan added.
Further investigation showed that Venegas was also driving on a revoked NY State Driver’s license for a DWI-related charge.
Venegas was charged with felony DWI, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and failure to use a court-ordered ignition interlock device. He was released on $2,000 cash bail and has a return court date of Aug. 20.
